It was an experience that I will never forget. It was such an honour of mine to have met Mdm Teresa Hsu Chih (许哲), and to greet her personally at a seminar last night. All thanks to my friend, Roy.
Known as Singapore’s Mother Teresa, she is the founder of Society For The Aged Sick and Heart To Heart Service. And she is recognized for her life-long contribution and dedication towards helping the aged sick and poor.
Mdm Teresa Hsu Chih is 114 years old this year but she looks like she is only in her 70s or 80s. She had such smooth and radiant skin which I believe is the result of her healthy diet. Her mind is calm and alert. She can hear very well and she did not need to wear glasses.
Mdm Teresa is a very wise woman. She still reads, meditates and practice yoga every day. That is not all. She continues her work to care for the aged and sick who are younger than her. Another interesting fact I was told was that she started learning Sanskrit at age 100. =) It is really amazing.
When asked what her favourite food is, she said ice cream. And everyone burst out laughing including herself. She likes to crack jokes and always bring joy and happiness to people around her.
During the refreshment, I had the chance to visit Mdm Teresa at a quiet corner. For fear of disturbing her rest time, I stood aside shyly. But she noticed and smiled so warmly to me. She had an assistant with her who then asked for our names and asked me to write my Chinese name for her. Perhaps it was to get my Chinese characters right. She then took a look and read my name clearly and accurately.
She is such a warm and lovely person. When I go near her, I can literally feel the love in her for everyone. It just radiates. I would even go so far to say that it was almost like an aura. You can’t see but yet you can feel.
Mdm Teresa’s works and causes, her selfless giving, dedication and contribution is truly inspiring for me.
